Repeatedly, Jesus asked us to "watch at all times" for His return. It is clear that it would be easy to miss, unless we make an effort to search out all possibilities.
It is also clear that, even in Jesus's time, a life devoted to religious study was no guarantee of being able to recognize Him. For the scribes and pharisees had done this, and yet they were blind to the unexpected ways in which Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament. They had become so attached to their own understanding of these prophecies, that they refused to consider other possibilities. Spiritually, they were asleep. The followers of the scribes and pharisees also failed to accept Jesus -- they put their trust in the teachings of their religious leaders, and would not listen to anything else. They did not realize that each human soul has the inborn ability to recognize Christ whenever He appears. Were it not so, how could a just God hold us accountable when the Promised One comes? The disciples listened to the voice of their soul, rather than blindly following the teachings of other men. They were humble people, who were not attached to a particular understanding, and who could feel the spiritual reality of Christ in the words He spoke and in the life He lived. They were awake! When the Promised One comes, it is the Day of Judgment, because it reveals who is awake, and who is asleep. For those who are awake -- those who watch -- any time that a claim is made concerning Christ's return they must investigate the claim, and must make a judgment. We invite you, therefore, to humbly search out the teachings of Baha'u'llah, and see if, in your heart, you hear in them that same Voice of spiritual truth, authority and guidance as you have heard in Christ's previous appearance. How can the sincere soul be certain that he makes the right choice in this, the most significant decision of a lifetime? Again, we can rely on the guidance of Jesus: "Watch ye therefore and pray always..." (Luke 21:36) God will surely guide whosoever sincerely and humbly prays to Him and asks Him for guidance. Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7) We hope that the attached selections and links will aid you in your investigation and will answer most of your questions. But the Revelation of Baha'u'llah is very large, and an adequate investigation will often require more. Meeting the Baha'is in your area is an excellent way to have your questions answered and find books that explain the teachings of Baha'u'llah in detail. We invite you, therefore: to contact us or to read additional information about the Baha'i Faith in general or to read more information about the relationship of the Baha'i Faith to Christianity and the fulfillment of the prophecies of the past. | ||||||||||
